Paramount Pictures Futurist in Residence Ted Schilowitz and Steve Waskul talk about the future of media and entertainment technology in the StudioXperience Broadcast Studio at the 2018 NAB Show. During the conversation they talk about the efforts underway by multiple companies to “discover” the future of immersive media experiences. One interesting topic discussed is the current state of dynamic volumetric media and how some companies are looking into AI to help create 3D volumetric video and others, like Intel, are working on capturing full 3D volumetric scenes using many high-resolution cameras simultaneously. Using this approach, Intel interpolates the massive data sets from all the cameras to create volumetric spaces where a virtual camera can be placed and moved around the data set allowing for entriely new cinematic experiences from any location within the area the cameras had caputured.
