Sony Pictures Imageworks’ Executive Director of Software Development Erik Strauss joins Steve Waskul during this Waskul.TV interview from SIGGRAPH 2016. The conversation is wide ranging. The two discuss the software Erik’s team creates and deploys and how Imageworks’ leverages hardware solutions from companies like Dell and some “off-the-shelf” software solutions combined with custom code to create solutions that support the creativity and efficiency of the teams of Imageworks’ artists.
About Erik Strauss
Erik leads the software engineering team (approximately 60 engineers) at Sony Pictures Imageworks. Erik’s team is responsible for the design, development and release and implementation of a wide range of software applications for the Sony Pictures Imageworks’ visual effects and animation business. The tools and technology span a wide range of three tiered transactional versioning databases to custom user facing applications in C++ and Python for digital artists. During Mr. Strauss’ time at Imageworks, his team has developed and brought large applications to market like Katana and has released several industry standard open source projects like Alembic and OpenColorIO.
